Reese Mason

Reese "Ratt" Mason

Age: 16

Birthdate: July 7th

Height: 5' 4"

Weight: 122 lbs.

Hair: Blonde

Eyes: Blue

Distinguishing Characteristics: Due to a congenital malformation, Reese Mason has only 4 toes on each foot.

Friends: Tessa Vasquez

Enemies: None, but his relationship with his father is strained at best.

Known Family: Jennifer Reese (mother), Richard "Ricky" Mason (father)

The son of Jennifer Reese and Richard Mason, Reese adopted the name “Ratt” to assert his individuality apart from his parents. Reese’s feet have only 4 toes each, the result of genetic oligodactyly. The occasional taunts from classmates are bad enough, but his father’s verbal and physical abuse exacerbates the situation.

Richard Mason’s short temper often leads him to blame Reese for his low-income existence. Richard hates the sight of Reese’s bare feet, and often steps on Reese’s toes as punishment. Jennifer is content to ignore the problem, so long as she is able to keep Richard from taking his anger out on her.

Reese will not answer to his birth name, and actively encourages people to refer to him as "Ratt." He believes that his parents care nothing for him, and he is unconcerned with obeying them. Reese sees himself as fundamentally undesirable, and often acts out in social situations, up to and including violence. Despite his low self-esteem, he is surprisingly secure in his sexual attraction to other boys.

Reese's missing toes appear to weigh on his self-esteem far out of proportion to their actual effect on his social life. In reality, most of his classmates are unaware of his deformity. He seems highly appreciative of Tessa Vasquez's friendship. That said, based on his online journal, he worries that he is only appealing to her because of her obsession with congenital malformations.

Although he is somewhat neurotic about his feet, Reese Mason is an otherwise ideal candidate for Project Ithaca. All of the data we have gathered suggests that he will be able to adapt to the subjects' social structure and find a role within it. Our only difficulty will be in approaching him at just the right moment.

Dr. Kyle, have you picked out a potential mentor for him yet?

Actually, Scott Willow has volunteered to take Reese under his wing. He said something about having a thing for blondes, but I think he was just being facetious.
