Background

Background

The particulars of Christopher Howard’s life are mostly unknown, except that he was recovered from a cruise ship found abandoned off the coast of California. The remainder of its passengers and crew were already dead.

It is worth noting that many of those who perished appeared to have died of pure fright, their faces locked in expressions of terror. The few who had not expired this way were either missing or had committed suicide long before help could arrive. Christopher alone survived the ordeal, but all memories of his life before the incident were lost.

Psychological Evaluation

Psychological Evaluation

As one of the youngest subjects in Project Ithaca, Christopher is easily intimidated by the older, stronger teenagers. Introverted and shy, he prefers to avoid conflict by escaping the notice of his more predatory peers. Indeed, Christopher solves most of his problems by avoiding them. His closest bond is with Alasdair Zadok, who shares his enthusiasm for collectible card games.

Chris is rarely seen in the barracks outside of meal time. He seldom smiles unless collectible card games are involved, but he has found a measure of security as Noah Pak's "personal assistant." Chris is protected by Noah’s raw power, while Noah demands half of Chris’s rations in return.

Paradox

Paradox

Dark Water

Christopher can increase the volume of water an a given point in space by mentally pulling water vapor out of the air. His control over this process is extremely crude, and psychologically linked to a metaphor of “drowning.” In active tests, Christopher most often utilizes this Paradox to fill an assailant’s lungs, nose, or mouth with water.

Although he can create water virtually at will, he has no control over the shape of the liquid itself. All water Christopher creates in this way is black and polluted-looking, but lab tests have revealed it to be sterile.

Introducing psilocybe cubensis into Christopher's diet has had relatively little effect. Since the change in diet, his body has been consistently wet with the same unusual water his Paradox produces. Despite our best efforts, nothing seems to keep his skin dry longer than a handful of seconds.

That said, compared to the expected effects of ingesting cubensis, this is almost a non-issue.

Based on my private sessions with him, I have to conclude that Chris is possibly the most emotionally fragile subject in Project Ithaca. Per Dr. Malone's request, I will continue counseling him personally until a professional psychologist can be hired.

I can give him some private lessons with Alasdair when I return from Alberta, Dr. Kyle. They seem to enjoy each other's company, and it might give Chris some time away from the older subjects.
